2018/2019 session 2019-04-01 seminar

The Applied Biostatistics Association (TABA) invites you to a seminar, light supper & conversation:

Topic: Role of biomarkers in drug development
Presenter: Kasra Yousefi, Hoffmann-La Roche Limited, Mississauga, Canada

Kasra is a statistical scientist at Roche Mississauga supporting various hematology studies primarily in the Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma disease setting. Prior to joining Roche, Kasra led the statistical efforts, clinical validation and commercialization of the Decipher genomic classifier test for prostate cancer patients and managed a small team of statisticians and programmers while at GenomeDx Biosciences. During his free time, Kasra enjoys hiking and running along Lake Ontario.

Abstract:
The goal of this presentation is to explain how biomarkers can help us in tailoring the right treatment to the right patient in an era of precision medicine. An overview of diagnostic, prognostic and predictive biomarkers will be provided. We will discuss how to distinguish between prognostic and predictive biomarkers based on available clinical results and formal statistical tests. Finally, validation metrics and approaches that would lead to commercialization of biomarker tests will be discussed with practical examples.
