2013/14 session 2014-01-20 seminar

Title: Going crooked … when going straight won’t do: A brief overview of crooked line regression.

Presenter:   Micheal Manno.

Micheal has held analyst positions at ICES, St. Michael’s Hospital, the Institute for Work & Health and is now at the Ontario HIV Treatment Network.

Abstract:  In most studies, associations between outcome and predictor(s) are assumed to follow fairly simple linear relationships. This may be suitable in many circumstances, however, in others, a simple linear regression may not be adequate. For some studies, parameters reflecting non-linearity or changes in trajectory due to interventions need to be incorporated. One possible method for dealing with this problem is crooked line regression. In this talk, I will present a version of the crooked line regression model along with the simple algebraic steps which can be used to implement it using any regression procedure. This will be followed by an application of the model in a longitudinal analysis of the effects of an educational intervention on physicians’ prescribing of opioids.
